Bargaining Updates

Bargaining Update #29

bargainingYour CUPE bargaining committee reconvened bargaining February 4 to7 with SAHO and thevEmployer in Saskatoon. Your committee tabled an updated proposal package of CUPE specific proposals. This package contained the same list of remaining proposals that were presented during our strike vote meetings conducted from January 8 - 22, 2014.

These proposals included a two year deal of three per cent general wage increase in each year (2012 and 2013) and a number of proposals that still need to be addressed by the Employer, including parity in other improvements such as shift and weekend premiums, overtime and standby, transportation, professional fees, leaves of absence, and responsibility pay.

We have also maintained proposals to address job security, recruitment and retention, extended health benefits, joint job evaluation, to improve working conditions, and a list of classifications where we are seeking market adjustments.

SAHO and the Employer responded to these proposals on Friday, February 7th. In their response, the Employer is seeking a five year agreement, with a total wage increase of 5.25 per cent over five years. Their concession on "Pay for Work Performed" remains in their response. The Employer is also taking the position that retroactivity would stop accruing, effective April 8, 2014, if the parties have not reached a deal by that time. The bargaining committee will continue to work for a fair and equitable deal. Further bargaining dates are scheduled for February 26, 27, and 28, 2014.

In Solidarity,

Your CUPE Bargaining Committee
