Sunrise Health Region Local Announces Colouring Contest

ContestHealth care workers in the Sunrise Health Region, members of CUPE Local 4980, have taken out an ad in the local Yorkton News to kick off a colouring contest.

The contest features an illustration of a panda, an endangered animal, protecting the endangered public hospitals that community members and working people rely on. Like the natural habitat of the panda, strong public services are endangered under the Brad Wall government.

Children 14 and under are encouraged to brighten up the future of health care in this province by colouring in the design and mailing it in to the address included below. Prizes include an iPad and an iPad mini.

This contest follows on the heels of the Brad Wall government announcing the privatization of laundry services in the province. CUPE members, who contribute to clean laundry, nutritious food, diagnostic testing, and a whole host of services that are integral to health care, are part of a public system that is cost-effective and reliable.

"We want people to know what's going on with health care and to talk about it—not just with adults, but also with the next generation of workers—their children," said Pearl Blommaert, president of Local 4980. "We want to get the youth thinking about the future of their health care system."

The ad will also appear in the November 20 edition of the Yorkton News. To download click here.

Eligible contestants must be residents of the communities served by Sunrise Health Region.

Submissions must be mailed and postmarked no later than December 5 to:
