CUPE is pleased to welcome nearly 600 members to CUPE 5430! This transition for employees at Sunset, Elmview, and Parkside in Regina was the result of a Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board (SLRB) decision released on November 30, 2023.
In October 2022, the Saskatchewan Health Authority took over management of five long-term care facilities from Extendicare. The SLRB decided that as the exclusive bargaining agent for former Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region health service providers, CUPE will represent workers at the three former Extendicare facilities in Regina.
“It is an honour to welcome these members to CUPE 5430. Long-term care staff members work incredibly hard to care for the people who built this province, and we look forward to going to bat for these members on the issues that matter to them most,” said Linda Renkas, vice president of CUPE 5430. “We are working on the transition as workers go from being represented under their current collective agreement to being represented by CUPE under the CUPE-SAHO collective agreement. CUPE’s main goal is to ensure that you have a smooth transition for everyone involved.”
