Dear valued member,
I’m reaching out to update you on a recent meeting with the Minister of Health. Last month, your Vice President Linda Renkas and I had to opportunity to meet with the Minister of Health to share concerns about working conditions, the lack of a retention plan for our existing health workers as well as the need for a fair deal at the bargaining table.
While the Minister appeared to express concern about these issue at the time, we have learned that he has since been responding to correspondence from our members who wrote him to highlight their cost-of-living concerns with a self-congratulatory letter than minimizes their concerns and suggests their government has done enough to help our members go by.
We know that is not the case. We know wages haven’t kept up with the cost-of-living. We know our members are having to make difficult decisions each and every day. We know our members are committed to their work, but that working conditions are getting worse. That’s why we are fighting for a fair deal at the bargaining table to recognizes the value of your work. And that’s why I couldn’t let his claims lie. Please see my attached response to the Minister.
We will keep fighting for better.
