Did you know that your CUPE collective agreement has important restrictions on multi-site work?
With appropriate notification to the Union, the Employer can create new multi-site positions or convert vacant positions to multi-site positions. Such a position is one where a part-time or full-time employee works at more than one facility or work location.Such a position is one where a part-time or full-time employee works at more than one facility or work location.
However, the CUPE collective agreement requires the Employer to provide a rationale for the multi-site position to the Union. The parties must also discuss potential alternatives to multi-site work.
The CUPE collective agreement also restricts an employee in a multi-site position from working in more than one community (city, town or village), unless it is otherwise mutually agreed.
Lastly, positions that are already filled cannot be converted to multi-site positions without the consent of the Union.
