CUPE would like to reach out to our members regarding the recruitment issues that have been prevalent within the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) with regards to the cook classifications, namely the cook position (Job #010) and the head cook position (Job #024). The SHA has been in talks with Saskatchewan Polytechnic regarding the development of a new health care cook program designed solely for cooking in the health care setting.
CUPE, along with the other two provider unions (SGEU and SEIU-West), were notified by the SHA in June 2020 about a health care cook program with very little detail.
When: Wednesday, June 2, 2021 4:30 – 6:00 p.m.

As Saskatchewan celebrates National Nursing Week, health care provider unions are urging the Saskatchewan government to remember and recognize one key component of the nursing team that is often overlooked – Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).
“In Saskatchewan, LPNs are front line care nurses that are responsible for managing patient care plans in collaboration with registered nurses and doctors,” said Tracey Sauer, SGEU president. “They perform much more than basic patient care, and are often specialized in critical areas, such as hemodialyis care, peri-operative care and advanced orthopedics. Many LPNs also received additional training and have been an integral part of the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out.”

“It is tempting to think Sexual Harassment at work is a thing of the past.” – Sadly, it is not.
Everyone can agree that work should be safe, and so should workplaces! Each year, however, thousands of reports of sexual harassment are filed across Canada, while the lion’s share, 80% of incidents, go unreported.
Sexual harassment is a form of discrimination that can manifest in many ways – verbal, physical, or visual. It may happen as a single incident, or as a series – but it is always unsolicited and unwelcome.
Join us for this important and informative discussion that will introduce you to the critical topic of sexual harassment. Our panelists will share their expertise with participants in defining the social and legal responsibilities that Employers, Unions, and Employees have to combat and prevent sexual harassment in Canadian workplaces.
Case law and topical findings from across Canada, particularly from within the post-secondary sector, will be considered, so that the path to repair the workplace can be mapped. The immense psychological harm and organizational costs that follow from sexual harassment require that it be understood and tackled by everyone.
The role of the bystander in combatting sexual harassment will also be considered, while best practices, tools, and resources in different regions of Canada will be provided to those attending.
Participants must have access to a computer (or mobile smart device) and an internet connection. Registration is limited to 290 participants.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
